CANVAS books reach Aeta communities in Porac

March 27, 2026 — Porac, Pampanga

Despite limited learning resources, the students of Villa Maria Integrated School are eager to learn. These are the observations of the University of the Philippines Open University CWTS program. University students who go through the program engage with the communities in Barangays Villa Maria and Inararo and, through this, are determined to improve the learning environment for kids in school.

Through the CWTS program, the young learners participated in poster and essay writing competitions. The awarding ceremony was accompanied by a distribution of CANVAS books.

These programs exhibit the power of a reader-book connection. One child said that having a book of his own was a win in itself, but it’s made sweeter because his book was filled with colorful illustrations.
