Readers win prizes in Silang, Cavite

The Iskolar Reading Center, a community-based learning hub, encourages reading through its "Read a book, win a prize” initiative. With a collection of CANVAS books on the shelf, young readers in Silang have more toys to win! Every time they come in to read a book and talk about it with the library staff, they can pick a reward from the Reading Center’s collection of toys. They shared their own musings after reading I am the Change in Climate Change.

“Sayang nagkakaroon ng mass extinction, edi sana yung T. rex meron pa ngayon kahit sa zoo,” quipped a young reader. ("Too bad there was a mass extinction, if there wasn't, maybe we'd still have T. rexes still, even in a zoo.")

The book helped them understand the impact of climate change on their very own lives.

“Dati po hindi binabaha sa [bahay ng] tita ko. Over the years po tumaas [ang tubig] sa talampakan, then ngayon po recently tuhod na.” (My aunt's house didn't use to flood. Over the years, the flood waters have gone beyond the food, recently, it is up to the knees now," bemoaned one child.
