Labanan tayo ti fake news! S&P Global equips students against misinformation with #YOUTHink
September 14, 2026 — Bagulin, La Union
“Naimbag nga bigat!” The learners of Suyo National High School shouted in unison when the hosts from CANVAS asked how ‘good morning’ is said in Iloko. They were all gathered in groups of five and six, and seated with one adult wearing an S&P Global volunteer shirt.
The Bagulin Municipal Hall was filled with people—a mix of learners, teachers, and volunteers from S&P Global Philippines and CANVAS. The program commenced with opening remarks from team CANVAS. They introduced CANVAS and the One Million Books for One Million Filipino Children program, and showed the learners the book each learner received, #YOUTHink: Labanan Ti Fake News. It is the Ilocano translation of #YOUTHink: Fight Fake News, which was initially published in 2020. S&P Global was also introduced as the volunteers and main facilitators of the day’s event.
329 copies of #YOUTHink: Labanan Ti Fake News, a set of hardbound CANVAS books, and laptops from S&P Global, were turned over to the Principal of Suyo National High School, Ma’am Cleofe Angadol.
Kuya Darryl and Ate Pao from S&P Global sat in the front portion of the municipal hall, with a copy of the book in hand. They started an engaging discussion about what fake news is, how to set apart facts, factual statements, and opinions, and more. Hundreds of learners and about 40 volunteers listened together, following the topics page by page.
The discussion was followed by activities found in the books. The groups solved crosswords and quizzes together with their ates and kuyas. When they were all finished, they proudly shared their answers with everyone in attendance.
The event concluded with remarks from Principal Cleofe, who gave her heartfelt thanks on behalf of the teaching staff and the entire school.
Everyone joined in a salu-salo of food, feeling filled after a fulfilling day.
Thank you, Suyo National High School, for the warm welcome! Thank you, S&P Global for partnering with us and sharing our advocacy of reading to more schools in the country!
