CANVAS takes home wins from Gintong Aklat Awards 2022

Pasay, Metro Manila – We are honored to have our books recognized by the Book Development Association Philippines at the Gintong Aklat Awards 2022!

The awarding was held last September 14, at the 44th Manila International Book Fair at SMX Convention Center Manila.

I am the Change in Climate Change by Alyssa Peleo-Alampay, PhD and Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan won Best in Book Design, while A Bridge for Silay by Agay Llanera and Ronson Culibrina became a finalist for the Graphic Literature category.

This recognition would not be possible without the talented team behind I am the Change in Climate Change: our writer Alyssa M. Peleo-Alampay, PhD, book and cover designer Liza Flores, illustrators from Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan, and cover photographer Ruben Flores.

Gintong Aklat Awards 2022 judge Dan Matutina says about our award-winning book: “We are currently facing a climate crisis, and children's books like "I am the Change in Climate Change" play a crucial role in shaping the future for the next generations. As adults, we are bequeathing them a broken world, making it important to provide them with the knowledge and tools to navigate this distressing landscape. The age-appropriate illustrations and thoughtful design of this book make it not only informative but also engaging, encouraging children to explore its pages.”

A non-profit that works with the creative community to promote literacy and explore national identity, CANVAS publishes its award-winning children's stories and donates their books to benefit children in public schools and poor communities throughout the Philippines. Its “One Million Books for One Million Filipino Children Campaign” promotes independent reading and creative thinking in Filipino children, while also exposing them to the best of contemporary Filipino art and literature.
