Burgos Central Elementary School, Isabela

CANVAS’ One Million Books Campaign travelled more than 10 hours by land to reach the students of Burgos Central Elementary School in Isabela Province. Together with Landbank of the Philippines, the elementary school children were given copies of Karapat Dapat , our book on the rights of the child.

Just two more weeks from Christmas, these books were CANVAS’ early Christmas gifts to the kids — who were loud and lively throughout the program.

Junica Madrid, a CANVAS Project Leader with a background in theater, treated the audience to an animated story-telling of The Boy Who Touched Heaven written by Iris Gem Li and illustrated by Sergio Bumatay III. Afterwhich, the students participated in some story-related Q&A, followed by — what else, snacks and picture-taking on the campus lawn.

It was a tiring trip for the CANVAS team members, but well worth the trip to see children thrilled at receiving books to call their very own.
