Sitio San Roque

Last August 5, 2018, CANVAS visited Sitio San Roque and distributed Karapat Dapat to 200 children. Before the actual bookgiving, CANVAS took time to discuss children's rights to the beneficiaries. Article 27, which talks about having the right to food security, decent clothing, and peaceful homes was very relevant to the children.

Sitio San Roque is one of the many communities demolished to give way to commercial structures that will eventually house Quezon City’s Business District. Currently, Ayala Land has built Trinoma, Seda Hotel, and Vertis North that occupy huge chunks of the sitio. Majority of the urban poor of San Roque have been displaced. Yet, some families continue to fight for decent housing.

After the discussion, the kids received their books and proceeded to do try out some of the activities in the book. The LandBank of the Philippines sponsored turon and sopas while Pascual Laboratories sponsored some medicines for the kids.
