Innocence
by Augie Rivera
On the rooftops,
On fishless afternoons,
The sea children with nothing
Else to do
Cast their eyes
Skyward, their kites
Bearing wings, gliding,
As if swimming
Against errant winds.
Unmindful of each other’s
Glazed strings, the kites soar—
Raising dreams as fragile
As the houses below,
Oblivious to lightning
Hidden in the clouds.
