Crab Mentality
by Carla Pacis

Are not crabs amazing creatures?

An armored carapace in lovely hues
Of blue or black, speckled or spotted.

Massive pincers from which
No unfortunate fish can escape.

Eight long legs that scuttle
In a way that only crabs can.

 (Amazing crab.)

Alas, it has come to be
That this wonderful creature’s natural qualities
Have been likened to people
Who selfishly pull down anyone else
From the top of the heap,

Except themselves.

Poor crab.
