Insecurity
by Germaine Yia

I wrap these arms around me
   and pretend they aren’t mine.
This numb embrace is all I have
as shadows protect me from the glare of knowing.

Imperfection has no cure
when you wake up from make believe.
   Mirrors become your enemy
   and seclusion your only ally.
